Finally!
It’s been about 3 months since I first heard about Akoha.
It was all over Twitter in the start of September, having just launched in Beta at TechCruch50.

I clicked through to the site, took a look at their fantastic comic and immediately signed up! I am not a person who passes up playing any type of game – especially an online/real world kind of game.
I waited and waited and… waited. Alas, I was not to be a lucky recipient of the free starter packs they were handing out in the early fall. I felt a little left out, but hey, life goes on. And without any cards to call my own, I forgot about the game.
But lo and behold! Just the other day, I heard once again about the marvelous Akoha!
I got a nice little email from their team reminding me about the game and directing me to the Akoha store where I would now have a chance to buy my very own card deck. A little disappointed at first, I went to the Akoha FAQ to find out why they weren’t giving out any more free packs. As it happens, there were simply not enough people registering their free decks so the business model changed. Okay, fair enough – I was in!
Off I went to buy the illustrious starter kit. Not only did I buy one, I bought one for each of my potential locations over the holidays to make sure that I got to “Play it Forward” during the giving season.
And now I wait. In anticipation.

I was really excited about the idea of Akoha when I first found out what it was (which was months after I heard of the company actually because they kept the whole idea so secretive).
It seems like only a few years ago in school I trained myself to finally not buy into the fads as I watched other kids go from one card game to another as the fads came and went, Magic cards, Pokemon cards, etc… If this manages to keep people interested a year from now I’ll be impressed and buy a deck and play. But I have to guess that within that time people will lose interest and only ever their Akoha cards as bookmarks
