Brain Age + Reality = Nintendo SAT Prep

SAT preppers Kaplan have announced that they’re partnering with Aspyr Media to create a game for Nintendo DS. We love this for a million reasons, but most importantly as yet another indicator that the whole world is in love with interactive ways of learning, playing, and… um… interacting. It’s really interesting to think about the impact that a tool like this could have on scores – I wonder what kind of research they’ll be putting behind investigating this phenomenon.

So, if you had to choose, would you rather be taught by (a) Mario, (b) Link from Zelda, or (c) Toad from MarioKart? I’m going with Link.

Let’s be realistic about this, very few teenagers will want to play an SAT prep game. Teens like to do stuff for fun and then they like to do stuff for school/work. Combining the two is a recipe for disaster.

The only reason stupid products like this get made is that adults sit around and think “oh what can we get kids to do to study for the SAT” and the end result is a stupid SAT game.

    So no Link for you?

Kidding aside – do you think there’s a way to impact and sharpen thinking using problem-solving games?
